Barry Chappell Chews 95,200 Pieces of Nicorette Gum, Rolls Them Into 175-Pound Ball
| “The world’s largest medicated gum ball.” |
The 175-pound ball of Nicorette gum recently inducted into the “Ripley’s Believe it Or Not!” hall of fame really, really makes us want a cigarette.
It belongs to 50-year-old Barry Chappell, apparently bored-to-death resident of Palos Verdes Estates (a wealthy cliffside L.A. County hood experiencing a spike of weird crime this week).
“It all started on a long flight to Europe in 2006…”
… reports Art and Coin TV, when “Chappell had nowhere to throw away the piece of gum he was chewing, so he rolled it into a tiny ball. Throughout the flight the ball slowly grew, as layer after layer was carefully molded upon the last. By the time the flight landed, Chappell vowed to create the world’s largest gumball!”
And that he has. Over the last half-decade, the 175-pound ball has accumulated over 95,000 pieces of already-been-chewed Nicorette gum. The giant lunar-boogar-looking atrocity has reached a girth of approximately 62 inches, according to the Los Angeles Times. (Journalism!)
Art and Coin TV has compiled a nifty step-by-step for creating a 175-pound ball of Nicorette gum, as guided by Chappell, who’s clearly the expert on that subject. Click to enlarge, if you dare:

Wow. TGIF, right? But wait — there’s video, too.
Remind us to watch Art and Coin TV more often. And stay far, far away from Palos Verdes Estates, which is shaping up to be the site of the 2012 apocalypse.

Chris Brown is going to the Grammys.
And he’s doing more than just making an appearance…
READ: Exclusive! Selena Gomez “Partying and Drinking” in New “Edgy” Movie
I’m told the singer will probably be performing. This will be Brown’s first appearance at the Grammys since he assaulted Rihanna the night before the show three years ago.
He’s up for three awards this year. Plans for a performance are still being worked out, so details are being kept very hush-hush.
It’s already been announced that Rihanna will perform with Coldplay.
But no need to worry. Brown and Rihanna were recently partying separately but at the same time at Greystone Manor in West Hollywood. Not only did they keep their distance, but Brown was also there with his girlfriend Karrueche Tran.
The Grammys will be hosted by LL Cool J and telecast live on CBS from L.A.’s Staples Center on Feb. 12. Also set to perform are Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson, Foo Fighters, Bruno Mars, Paul McCartney, the Band Perry, Nicki Minaj and Taylor Swift, among others.
Now we want to hear from you. Psyched for Chris Brown to perform at the Grammys? Sound off below.

Demi Moore 911 Call Released (Audio)
The 911 call the landed actress Demi Moore in the hospital and rehab has been released. There is a whole heck of a lot more going on than her just being exhausted that is for sure. In fact there seems to be a lot of confusion and hysteria and you can take a listen below. It is something to hear that is for sure.
I have listened to the below audio a couple of times and I have to say this shiz is crazy. The woman who initially makes the call is clearly shaken and so unsure of what to do ,you feel bad for her. Plus the phone goes between two people, things were definitely out of control in Demi’s house that night. The dispatcher continues to ask questions as each of the callers tries to explain the scene and help.
Anyway I am not going to tell you word for word what it says because that is no good. You absolutely have to listen to it. However what you should be aware of is that we learn that Moore smoked some kind of substance that night, which was not pot and it caused her to have some sort of seizure. We also learned that there was apparently an issue getting to her house. As you may or may not know the actress lives on a very private road so there was some confusion on getting the gate open and things like that.
In all honesty the whole thing is very sad. I mean even though the 911 call has been released the public still knows very little about what took place that night. I would say that is the way it should be and on that note I am going to leave you to listen to the audio. However I do want to say here is hoping that Demi weather this storm safely and quickly.

Circle K Stores Begin Using Facebook To Shame Criminals
Category: News Author : James Johnson Posted: January 27, 2012

The Circle K corporation is unfortunately no stranger to robberies, in fact people coming in armed, stealing money or grabbing beer without paying is so common place that the company has decided to fight back using Facebook.
While Circle K still hands over surveillance footage to local police officers the company has also began using that equipment to take pictures of armed robbers, shoplifters and other thieves which they then post to a Facebook crime that was specifically created to show the faces of thieves.
Circle K Loss Prevention Manager Carlos Estrada told KPHO TV:
“We post signs on our stores that let them know that if they obviously do something that isn’t right, they might be on Facebook.”
To showcase criminal acts the company created the “Circle K Crime Busters” Facebook page in which they have already posted dozens of images.
The company hopes that their actions will help solve recently unsolved crimes and make shoplifters and robbers think twice before robbing from their locations.
According to Estrada:
“Social network is definitely going to hit a different demographic, and it’s just another unique way to help combat crime in Arizona.”
Whether the program will be a success is still unknown however the Circle K crime page has been receiving thousands of viewers since launching several months ago and the page has generated thousands of tips while solving at least half a dozen crimes.
You can check out the Facebook page here.
Now if Facebook would just use their facial recognition software for good we could end up solving a lot of convenience store crimes very quickly.
Do you think the Circle K Crime Busters Facebook Page is a smart way to solve crimes in a socially connected world?
Survivors Don’t Buy $14K Offer
How much is a terrifying experience like surviving a shipwreck worth? The Costa Concordia’s owner puts that price at around $ 14,500.
Tullio M. Puglia / Getty Images
At least 3,206 of the Costa Concordia’s 4,200 passengers and crew members will be offered a payout of $ 14,500 (€11,000) for having to suffer through the chaotic shipwreck and sloppy evacuation off the Tuscan island of Giglio on January 13. The Genoa-based Costa Crociere cruise company, which owns the Concordia and employed its erstwhile captain Francesco Schettino, announced Friday that they would offer the sum as a final settlement for those who were not injured in the accident.
Since the wreck, Costa says their representatives in more than 60 countries have been in touch with survivors to offer counseling and to register the value of the possessions they lost when the ship went down. In addition to the settlement, Costa will also reimburse the cost of the cruise ticket, cover passengers’ flights home, and pay for additional receipted expenses incurred in Italy in the days after the crash. They will also return all passenger items found in the cabins on the ship when the wreckage is recovered.
The settlement would cost the Carnival Cruise Lines subsidiary more than $ 45 million. It was reached through a hasty negotiation between Costa and the Italian travel consumer group Astoi Confindustria, along with parties from Spain, France, and Germany to try to stave off individual lawsuits.
Private lawyers are urging survivors not to take the bait. The Italian environmental group Codacons, which is an umbrella group for a number of agencies, has posted a notice
Indeed, almost no one is advising passengers to accept the Costa offer. “Throwing money at survivors to effectively get them out of sight is not what we have in mind,” said Giulia Bongiorno, an attorney who has gathered a group of about 50 survivors for a class-action lawsuit. “These people have no idea what their agonizing experience is worth yet. It could take years to understand the full impact of the experience.”
Bongiorno points out that in Italy, anyone filing a civil complaint in a criminal case then becomes a third party, meaning they would have legal representation in court when Schettino eventually faces trial for manslaughter, abandoning ship, and negligence in causing a shipwreck. At least a dozen passengers from the U.K., U.S., and Italy have already filed personal suits for damages in courts in Miami, where Carnival Cruise Lines is based.
These people have no idea what their agonizing experience is worth yet. It could take years to understand the full impact of the experience.”
Costa representatives in Italy say that family members of those who perished in the wreck and the passengers who were injured or who are in extensive counseling as a result of the accident will be dealt with on an individual basis. The rest, they hope, will take the offer. “This compensation package is higher than the current indemnification limits provided for in international conventions and laws currently in force,” according to a statement posted on Costa’s website. “The €11,000 lump-sum payment is offered to all Costa Concordia passengers, including nonpaying children, regardless of their age.”

Kim Kardashian Scores Acting Gig On ‘Drop Dead Diva’
Is the acting world really taking Kim Kardashian seriously? It sure looks that way now that she has landed herself a recurring role on the Lifetime show ‘Drop Dead Diva’.
Kim Kardashian the actress, get used to that my friends because for some reason Hollywood seems to think the reality star can act. I personally am a huge fan of Kim’s but even I don’t have a whole lot of faith in her acting abilities. That being said I was very surprised that she actually landed herself a recurring role on the hit Lifetime show.
The network confirmed on Thursday the Kardashian will be playing the role of Nikki, who is the love interest for Ben and just so happens to be working on a business venture with Ben’s ex. Oh yes it looks like a love triangle is in store of Kim’s character. Drop Dead Diva will air sometime this summer. No official start date has been released yet, however the character of Nikki will appear in the very first episode the season.
Landing a recurring role on an already established show is just the lasted acting gig that the middle Kardashian sister has landed in recent months. First there was the news of her role in Tyler Perry’s The Marriage Counselor and then a guest starring role on the Tim Allen show Last Man Standing. The later will air in February on ABC.
All of the these new acting jobs certainly have me wondering if Kim will be giving up her reality TV life for well a serious acting life. Considering a huge part of the family business in reality TV shows and that E! Networks is all about keeping the Kardashian’s on air something tells me that Kimmie isn’t going anywhere. Although I have to say as long as Khloe is on the shows I don’t really care who else is on because she is my fave. Those are my thoughts what you think of Kim Kardashian the actress?
