​One of two lawsuits filed in the wake of the Miramonte Elementary School sex abuse scandal alleges one girl was victimized by suspect Mark Berndt and then transferred to the classroom of Martin Springer, who then touched her inappropriately.

In fact, according to the suit, the school’s resolution following her father’s complaints about inappropriate photos allegedly taken by Berndt was to move his daughter to the care of Springer, who was charged with this week with three counts of lewd acts on a child.

Berndt, as you know …

… is the ex-Miramonte teacher whose case set off the scandal at the Florence-Firestone school. He has been charged with 23 counts of lewd acts on children.

Springer was arrested last week on suspicion of lewd acts on two children, but the District Attorney’s filing this week only mentions one victim and three counts:

Fox 11 News last night stated that one of the children in the case either changed her story or gave an account that did not add up.

It’s not clear if the civil suit refers to that student or the victim in Springer’s criminal case.

According to City News Service’s account of the suit:

In 2008, the father of a female student complained to Sandoval about inappropriate photos Berndt took of her and other students, the suit states, but Sandoval said the pictures “might be part of a class project” and dismissed the father’s concerns.

The girl was transferred to Springer’s class, where she was subsequently “inappropriately touched” by him on the leg and thigh, the suit states.

It was one of two suits filed against the L.A. Unified School District, Berndt, Springer and Miramonte principal Martin Sandoval on behalf of three female students for alleged intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence, sexual battery and assault.

The complaints were both filed by attorney Gregory Owen.

One of the suits’ allegations is that Berndt made a CD for one of his victims.

The claims also allege that the district knew two students had complained in the 1990s that Berndt had been seen masturbating behind his desk but reacted by telling the kids not to make up stories.

Carmen Trutanich

​City Attorney Carmen Trutanich announced Thursday that his office is suing Northern Trust, a firm that manages investments for the city pension fund, in an effort to recoup $ 95 million in market losses.

“I’m coming,” Trutanich said. “We’re coming. And we want our money back.”

If Trutanich prevails in the lawsuit, he can expect a substantial windfall for his own office. Trutanich could collect attorney’s fees, plus significant civil penalties that would be split between his office and the county.

The City Attorney’s Office sued Northern Trust under the California Unfair Competition Law, a broadly written statute that allows plaintiffs to reap civil penalties for illegal or “unfair” business practices. The City Attorney’s Office has a team of a dozen attorneys whose only job is to file such claims.

The Northern Trust suit appears to be the most ambitious claim the City Attorney’s Office has yet filed under the Unfair Competition Law. In a press release, the Office alleged that Northern Trust had violated “common law fiduciary standards” by investing pension money in risky mortgage-backed securities.

In a statement, Northern Trust called the lawsuit “meritless,” and noted that the investments were made according to the pension fund’s own guidelines and under the fund’s supervision.

The City Attorney’s Office described the lawsuit as the first of its kind in the country. The suit seeks $ 95 million in restitution to the pension fund, plus civil penalties and attorney’s fees. Any settlement agreement would likely include all of those components. City Attorney’s spokesman Frank Mateljan said the office had not calculated how much money could go to Trutanich’s own budget.

Trutanich said he has personally devoted much of the last two years to the lawsuit, and promised there would be more like it.

“This thing is major league. It’ll rock the financial world,” he said. “This is the best thing I’ve done since I’ve been in office.”

The ‘Vitruvian Man’ by Leonardo da Vinci is one of the most iconic images of Renaissance art.

Dating from 1490, this pen and ink drawing depicts a male figure in superimposed positions, arms and legs apart and inscribed in a circle and square. The accompanying text details the ideal human proportions, with geometry described by the ancient Roman architect Vitruvius.

However, one historian has now suggested da Vinci copied the work.

Claudio Sgarbi, an Italian architectural historian, discovered a deeply similar drawing by Giacomo Andrea de Ferrara (below) in 1986. De Ferrara was a Renaissance architect, a renowned expert on Vitruvius, and – fancy this – a close friend of Leonardo da Vinci.

Sgarbi claims that de Ferrara drew his Vitruvian man first, and will lay out his arguments in academic papers due to be published this winter. He also says it’s likely de Ferrara and da Vinci discussed their respective works with one another.

Sgarbi’s case will point out that Leonardo’s version mentions “Giacomo Andrea’s Vitruvius,” likely a direct reference to the de Ferrara manuscript. And it’s said the men had dinner together in July 1490, the same year they both drew their Vitruvian men. Many historians suggest Leonardo would have used this occasion to pick at Giacomo Andrea’s vast knowledge of Vitruvius.

While both drawings are deeply similar, Leonardo’s is flawlessly executed, and Sgarbo is expected to argue this is because da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man was a refined version of de Ferrara’s.

Sadly for de Ferrara, I suspect the time for claiming royalties on the millions of Vitruvian Man mugs, mouse mats, and t-shirts has passed. Here’s de Ferrara’s Vitruvian man:

Talk about an emotional cliffhanger!

Four days after Chuck‘s profoundly emotional—and unexpected—series finale on NBC, the fans are still…processing. The series ended with Chuck (Zachary Levi) kissing Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski) in the hopes it would bring her memory back (including the memory of their profound luuuuhhve story), but we never got to see if the smooch worked.

So did it? And is there any chance we’ll get a Chuck movie to show what happens next? Here’s the scoop from executive producer and co-creator Josh Schwartz…

When pressed for an answer as to whether Sarah did indeed get her memory back, Schwartz tells me: “Our point of view on it is however you wanted that story to end, that’s how it gets to end. We wanted to leave it ambiguous enough that that audience member could finish that story.”

Now, when he says “you,” he specifically means me, right?! And so it is decided: Sarah got her memory back just before conceiving a baby Bartowski right on that beach and running off to sign escrow papers on their dream home and living happily ever after. Done, done and done!

Ahem. (Lame) jokes aside, it seems Chuck’s final moments truly shall remain in the eye of the beholder, especially since Schwartz says there aren’t any current plans in the works for a Chuck movie, despite what Zachary Levi told us about pitching ideas to the powers that be for “some kind of something” (perhaps a web-only movie).

“I don’t know,” Schwartz says, “Chris [Fedak] and I joked that we’re hoping that in like 10 years, some kid who watched the show will come up to us and be like, ‘I’ve got an idea for the Chuck movie!’ And it’ll be a successful reboot of a TV show… like Star Trek.”

Yes, please.

In the meantime, you should know that the outpouring of fan love following Friday’s series finale was very much taken to heart by Schwartz, Fedak and the whole Chuck gang.

“I was thrilled,” Schwartz says of reading fan comments online and via Twitter. “It was really nice. You know that show is so much about the relationship between the show and the fans and so to have them be so happy and satisfied and emotional about it—it was really, really satisfying.”

Oh, and just in case you’d still rather have proof that Sarah got her memory back and she and Chuck lived happily ever, a true story: I offered to send some ginkgo biloba (a supplement good for memory) to Yvonne Strahovski after seeing Friday’s finale and she gleefully accepted. “I can’t believe it’s over,” she told me of the show’s ending.

Prosecutors in New York are suing Anita Collins after the 67-year-old women embezzled more than $ 1 million from the Archdiocese of New York and then spent that money on lavish gifts for herself and loved ones.

According to Prosecutors Anita used the money she stole over a nine-year period to buy lavish items from the likes of Bloomingdale’s, Barney’s and Brooks Brothers.

Confronted at work last month the thief admitted her crimes after $ 10,000 went missing in December, however Assistant DA Amy Justiniano says she continued to lie about having not taken the other $ 1,063,000.

“She held herself out to be a religious woman going to church every day,” Justiniano said. “Yet, behind their backs she would lie and steal.”

Collins is no stranger to this type of theft, she pleaded guilty twice to larceny cases and had served probation. The archdiocese didn’t start doing background checks until 2003 which saved Collins from being discovered.

In order to embezzle the money Anita Collins wrote duplicate checks in small accounts and cashed them using fake names.

On Monday Anita entered no plea and is currently being held on $ 750,000 bail.

I am such a huge fan of The Lying Game that I seriously cannot wait for new episodes, especially for tonight’s show. If you recall it was quite the dramatic ending with Sutton and Emma finding out Annie is not their mother and Rebecca paying Annie a not so nice visit at the hospital. So much good stuff last week. Thankfully the folks at ABC Family are so good at giving me a fix in between shows and have given me a little sneak peek video to share with you our faithful readers.

After watching the below clip all I can say is this shiz is devilishly good. In the clip as you will see, Sutton is none too thrilled when she sees Laurel and Justin kissing. Being the evil little biotch that Sutton is, which I love by the way, she treats her little sis like crap. Yep quite the change from Emma and it appears to be leaving Laurel slightly confused and pissed at her sister. This kind of drama is what amazing shows are made of.

Not only do things get intense between Sutton and Laurel but Ethan finds himself in some serious trouble. What happens? Well all I am going to tell you is that there is an unexpected encounter that quickly gets out of control and lands the hottie in trouble. Poor Ethan he just always seems to get the crap end of the deal and I don’t know about you but I am willing to bet it has something to do with Sutton, just saying. But like you I will have to wait until 9PM EST to find out exactly what goes down, until then enjoy the sneak peek video.
