Why is Community moving to Fridays? Is this the comedy’s final season? Is it 30 Rock‘s final season, too? 

NBC boss Robert Greenblatt (Chairman, NBC Entertainment) fielded these questions and more when they spoke with reporters after they unveiled their official line-up for the fall.  Some other issues addressed included Smash‘s absence from the fall schedule and what new showrunner Josh Safran (Gossip Girl) will bring to the show, as well as the decision to cancel ambitious new drama Awake.

Community‘s New Home: NBC’s most shocking line-up change had to be moving the cult favorite comedy and Whitney to Friday nights (paired with freshman breakout Grimm). “We wanted to get more comedy on the schedule in general,” Greenblatt explains. “We think it will be good for the health of the network…there’s an opportunity for comedy on Friday, provided we can put shows there that already have audiences.” 

Final Seasons?: While reports have suggested that this will be 30 Rock‘s last season, and most likely Community‘s as well, Greenblatt denies that any decisions have been made. “As they age, it’s obviously something you look at. We haven’t definitely said that with any of them yet,” he says. Of showrunner Dan Harmon’s future with Community, Greenblatt says, “I expect Dan’s voice to be part of the show somehow, I’m just not sure if that means him running it day-to-day or consulting on it.” 

Smash‘s Delayed Opening: The breakout (and polarizing) freshman musical drama starring Megan Hilty and Katharine McPhee is nowhere to be seen on the network’s fall schedule, with J.J. Abrams‘ new drama Revolution snagging the coveted post-The Voice timeslot on Monday. However, fans of Smash shouldn’t be too concerned with their favorite show being held for midseason. “We’re going to do 16-18 [episodes] this year,” Greenblatt says, adding that the network wants to “run it sequentially week after week with new episodes” beginning in the winter. He gushes, “I couldn’t be happier with Smash.” 

Gossip Girl executive producer Josh Safran is set to take over showrunner duties on Smash in season two and Greenblatt was quick to rave about the new addition. “I’m thrilled that he’s joining the show,” he says. “He’s a great storyteller. I think he’s going to raise the bar for us.” Greenblatt adds that Safran will help improve the show’s character arcs, which have attracted some heat from critics and viewers during the first season.

Putting Awake to Sleep: While Awake was one of the most ambitious dramas of the TV season, it unfortunately failed to connect with audiences (its last original episodes garnered 2.5 million viewers). ”Awake was a creative endeavor that we tried that we unfortunately couldn’t bring a large enough audience to,” Greenblatt explains, citing the shows “complicated” premise as one of the reasons its didn’t bring in bigger numbers. 

Another show Greenblatt was sad to see go? “I’ve said it so many times, Prime Suspect was a favorite show of mine. It was an excellent show. We tried many different ways to get that audience to grow and not only did it not grow, it kept going the wrong way, We just had to make the really tough call to wrap it up and it’s a really tough call.” 

The Office‘s New Hires: Greenblatt says most of the cast of The Office, including Rainn Wilson and B.J. Novak will return for the comedy’s ninth season. “I expect to see all of that cast back except Mindy [Kaling], who is going on to her own show, which we’re thrilled about. We’re thrilled for her.” He also teases that fans should “expect some new faces to drop in” to The Office next season.

If you came of rap age in the (very) late ’90s and early ’00s like I did, it should be no surprise how fast this new video for “Zero Dark Thirty” from indie rap veteran Aesop Rock will remind you of hazy dorm rooms, warm 40s and misguided and ill-informed conversations with white girls with dreads about the important differences between rap and hip-hop. But it actually is kind of surprising, and now embarrassing, and I thought I got rid of all those memories. Anyway, if you’re just joining us, this is not A$ AP Rocky — the confusion is apparently just a coincidence (though it’s a little hard to believe that with how internet savvy the A$ AP mob are).

I don’t really know what “Zero Dark Thirty” is about — it’s the same name as the upcoming film from Best Director Oscar winner Kathryn Bigelow, but that’s about the Navy SEALS who killed Bin Laden, and I don’t think Aesop Rock really cares about that. “Zero Dark Thirty” is also military speak for half past midnight (F yeah, Yahoo! answers), so that’s probably closer to what’s going on. (Who the hell knows what an Aesop Rock song is about most of the time anyway?)

Sonically, it’s solid! And 35-year-old Aesop Rock, the rapper hasn’t lost a step, and Aesop Rock, the producer has only improved with age. He’s also not looking much older for having 10+ years in the game, though he has gone full-on East Williamsburg and let his beard do whatever the eff it feels like. While Aesop isn’t really known for going overboard with his videos, he always keeps them artistic, and “Zero Dark Thirty” follows on the same path. Here we have Aesop sitting on the floor and rapping against a wall while a mural is painted (and re-painted — at times looking like the painting in The Pharcyde’s “Drop”) in superfast time-lapse around him. It’s simple but executed well and is a pretty cool effect despite not being a million dollar “Star Wars” hologram brewed in the bionic depths of Skywalker Ranch.

Aesop Rock’s first first full length album in five years, Skelethon, drops July 10 on Rhymesayers Ent.

As we were getting comfy in our Snuggies to enjoy another week of goodness with Liz Lemon (Tina Fey) and Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin) on 30 Rock tonight, we caught a familiar face on the tube—Kim Kardashian!

The E! reality star—along with SNL alums Amy Poehler and Jimmy Fallon—were just a couple of the surprising faces we saw from tonight’s live episode on the West Coast.

“I hear 30 Rock is great tonight… Might want to tune in ,” she teased on Twitter.

Kim—looking tasteful and professional in a black top, black pants and camel blazer—made an appearance in the very beginning of the show when she walked into Jack’s office as a Cabletown coworker who needed to use the potty. We saw Kenneth (Jack McBrayer) let her in and then K.K. mouthed “thank you,” shook Jack’s hand and went on to do her business.

But that wasn’t all we got of our girl.

After Jenna Maroney’s (Jane Krakowski) cross-dressing boyfriend Paul (Will Forte) proposed to her during the live TGS show singing Mad Men‘s “Zou Bisou Bisou,” Lemon says, “Wow, 2.5 million people just saw that.”

And in pops Kim with her digital video recorder and added, “Now 14 million people just saw that. You’re welcome.”

Kimmy tweeted again after the show, saying, “Anyone see 30 Rock tonight??? I had a blast!!!! Love this show!”

Other surprise guests included Jon Hamm, Danny Pudi and Sir Paul McCartney.

Watch Far East Movement’s party-heavy “Live My Life (Party Rock Remix)” video.

You and I both know that any video boasting tunes by Far East Movement and a cameo by professional partier Redfoo (half of LMFAO) is going to be a complete and utter masterpiece. And surprise, surprise — it is! Directed by Mickey Finnegan, the video for Far East Movement’s Justin Bieber-assisted jam “Live My Life” was shot in Amsterdam (not even kidding). But since The Biebs couldn’t make it to the video shoot, FEM’s close pal and tourmate Redfoo stepped up to the plate and contributed a dope verse, the result of which FEM is now calling “Live My Life (Party Rock Remix).” One can never have too many Party Rocks.

In the clip, FEM and Redfoo do what they do best: wear bright clothing while partying extremely hard/making us feel really lame. This time, the boys take over a double-decker party bus and invite the folks of Amsterdam to join them. The bus is stocked with party favors, but no gathering is complete without Redfoo who, in addition to coordinating a giant flash mob style dance breakdown, finds the time to rap about a hot chick’s behind: “Yo, I never met a girl with a big booty that I didn’t like, yo, that I didn’t like, hey!/ I wanna get you alone, because the feeling’s right/ Tonight’s the night!/ This is how we do it.” The bus carries the boys from day to night, but as the fête rages on, nobody looks hungover, tired, sweaty or hungry. Y’all chugging energy drinks while nobody is looking or what? The stamina!

Cassie hangs out in the Nobu area of London.

Not saying that we’re like, fashion experts up in here (we leave those duties to MTV Style), but what the H is going on with Cassie’s outfit? We’re from the school of thought that the “King Of Hearts” singer is a 100 percent flawless queen who does no wrong so it’s not like we’re dissing our main girl, but we just kind of think this whole getup looks a little… bum chic? We’re down with the all-black everything and that (hopefully faux) fur scarf, but is that a denim robe? It’s giving me such weird feelings.

Cassie’s been hanging across the pond lately — she made some time to stop by Kanye West’s fashion show, and here she was snapped out and about in the Nobu area of London. We hope she’s having fun and resting up before her new record basically takes over the world, but what I really wanna know is if she’s keeping up with her “McDonald’s once a week” rule. In an interview with Buzzworthy, Cassie revealed she actually goes in on a fish filet once a week! Yeah, we don’t believe her either, so maybe the paps can capture that moment the next time?

Eat your heart out, Kim Kardashian.

​So we know we said we’d never mention the $ 10 million, 340-ton LACMA rock ever again — unless maybe it rolled off its “oversized load” truck and crushed a Prius — but we at the Weekly have a strict policy on covering every L.A. marriage proposal ever caught on tape.

And this one is special. Ramone Vasquez’ big question-pop to his girlfriend Maria yesterday may not be the most romantic proposal in the history of our romcom capital…

… but we’re fairly sure it sets the record for number of rock puns employed while asking the woman you love to spend the rest of her life with you.

In a video of the proposal shot by NBC LA, Vasquez appears incredibly nervous, and compensates by repeatedly comparing the rock in his little velvet box to the giant rock sitting in front of them (unromantically encircled by construction cones and other orange safety stuff).

“I wanted you to see the rock,” he says, grappling for the right words. “And… can you imagine that rock… on somebody’s finger?”

Er, scratch that. After mumbling so long that NBC LA actually fast-forwards through a couple minutes of pre-proposal (running commentary: “While dozens of curious passersby admire the boulder, Ramone struggles to find the appropriate symbol of the love he shares”), Vasquez finally lands on the perfect pun.

“Maybe that rock wouldn’t fit on your finger, but maybe this one will,” he says, getting down on one knee.

Awww. The rock made the second stop on its 10-day trip in Ontario yesterday, staking out at Mission and Grove. According to LACMA, “the area is fairly desolate outside of an Arco gas station across the street and a couple of nearby aviation companies” — which we really hope isn’t a metaphor for the marriage to come.

Scenes include plenty of bro hugging, loads of fake mustache wearing, and even an almost kiss from Justin and Selena (almost!). No word on how much Red Bull was consumed to obtain this kind of insanely good time.

Justin’s been an avid promoter of Carly Rae Jepsen for a minute now and even got her signed on his manager Scooter Braun’s record label, Schoolboy Records! If this video of the most popular celebs in Hollywood rocking out to the song doesn’t launch Carly’s career into immediate superstar status, we don’t know what will.
